Fields of Mistria Hayden Gifts — Loved, Liked & Birthday
Hayden's favorite gifts are golden animal products, Pumpkin Pie, Vegetable Quiche, and the Stone Horse artifact, and his birthday is Winter 8. He likes eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and most homemade pies, dislikes every kind of fish, and hates the Sushi Platter. If you want to befriend Sweetwater Farm's owner, think dairy, not seafood.
Who Is Hayden?
Hayden is your fellow farming enthusiast and one of the game's marriage candidates. Bold and friendly, he lives and works on Sweetwater Farm, the homestead just west of your own farm, and he's the first friendly face most players meet — he gifts you a watering can and three bags of turnip seeds when you start a new game. He was introduced on the Fields of Mistria website in January 2021.
He is a devoted animal lover, and his pride and joy is his prize chicken Henrietta. When you are ready to raise livestock, he will happily sell you animals from his house, and his shop also stocks feed and treats. Per the official character introduction, there is nothing he enjoys more after a hard day's work than putting his feet up at the inn for a big meal and a game of cards. According to Olric, the "Hayden Challenge" is working out outside during winter — which tells you something about his idea of fun.
His birthday falls on Winter 8. Birthday gifts grant extra friendship in Fields of Mistria, so saving a Pumpkin Pie or a golden egg for that day pays off. "A birthday present? For me? You have a generous heart!"

Best Gifts for Hayden
Hayden is one of the easiest candidates to please once your farm is running, because his entire liked list overlaps with ordinary ranching and cooking. Plain Milk, Chicken Eggs, Butter, Cheese, and Mayonnaise are all liked gifts, so a single barn or coop produces a steady daily supply. "Nothing quenches quite like a tall glass of Milk!" as he says — "I suppose I'm the only one who says that."
The real jackpot is golden produce. Every golden-tier animal product — Golden Milk, Golden Egg, Golden Duck Egg, Golden Butter, Golden Cheese, Golden Mayonnaise, and Golden Duck Mayonnaise — is a loved gift. "This Golden Cheese is top notch!" he says, and the Golden Duck Mayonnaise has him dreaming of "legendary sandwiches." As one rancher to another, he knows exactly what it takes to raise happy livestock: "Something like this comes only from the happiest of livestock." High-quality animals are worth the effort for friendship alone.
For cooks, Pumpkin Pie and Vegetable Quiche are loved — "This'll hit the spot. I'm gonna sneak a slice the second your eyes are off me!" — while Apple Pie, Lemon Pie, Sweet Potato Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, Crystal Berry Pie, and Wild Berry Pie are all liked. A plain Quiche is only liked, so add the vegetables. Heartier dishes like Loaded Baked Potato, Mushroom Steak Dinner, Pumpkin Stew ("Pumpkin, onion, and that rosemary smells so fresh!"), and Vegetable Pot Pie ("this pie's got all the hits!") round out the menu, and a simple Coffee or Tea with Lemon works in a pinch: "This is just the thing to help me relax after a busy day."
The one non-food loved gift is the Stone Horse artifact. "Oho, what a cute Stone Horse! I'll treasure the little guy." If you unearth one while digging, it is the perfect thing to save for Winter 8.
How Gifting Works in Fields of Mistria
You can give one gift per character per day, including on birthdays. Each liked or loved gift you give is recorded on that character's page in the Villagers list in the pause menu, so you can check your past hits before buying ingredients. Every character has a fixed set of loved and liked items worth learning.
Birthday gifts grant even more friendship than usual, which makes Winter 8 the best single day of the year to raise Hayden's hearts. Loved gifts raise heart levels the fastest, while hated gifts can damage your progress. Placing in the top three at the Spring Festival also gives a friendship boost.
As hearts climb, romance candidates unlock heart events at 2, 4, 6, and 8 hearts, with a letter arriving when an event is ready. A daily liked gift from the coop plus a loved gift on his birthday will get you there without any rare grinding.
Gifts to Avoid Giving Hayden
Keep fish away from Hayden. He dislikes every fish in the game along with "fishy items" — seafood dishes like Fish Tacos, Clam Chowder, Fish Stew, and the Lobster Roll, plus the Giant Fish Scale artifact. He likes fish too much to consider eating them: "I think of fish more as friends than meals."
That means his single hated gift should be no surprise: the Sushi Platter. "I'm not really a Sashimi kind of guy." The Sushi Platter is a loved gift for several other villagers — March, Reina, Valen, and Terithia among them — so double-check who you are handing it to before you serve raw fish to the town's biggest fish sympathizer.
Animal treats sit in a neutral middle ground. Cat Treats, Dog Treats, and the Heart Shaped Animal Treats from his own shop will not offend him, but they will not win hearts either — they are for your pets and livestock, not for him. And if he ever responds to a gift with a hesitant "Not that I'm not appreciative, but... oh, maybe it's for Henrietta?" — you have just handed him something from the disliked list.
