Fields of Mistria Children: How to Have a Baby Guide

Having fields of mistria children is the final step of the romance route: you must reach 10 hearts with a marriage candidate, propose with a crafted Engagement Ring, hold your wedding, and then present a Mystical Feather to your spouse. This guide walks through each gate in order, because none of them can be skipped — the baby conversation only unlocks after the wedding.

Step 1: Reach 10 Hearts and Start Dating

Friendship points with human NPCs only ever go up, so there is no wrong day to start. Heart events with marriage candidates trigger at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hearts, and you will receive mail pointing you to each one. Raise hearts by talking to your chosen character daily, giving liked or loved gifts, and placing in the top three at the Spring Festival — and if you are ever unsure what someone likes, Elsie shares a piece of gift gossip every day.

At the end of the 8-heart event you make a permanent choice: Dating or Best Friends. Only characters on the Dating route can be proposed to, so pick carefully — the decision cannot be undone later. While dating, you can take your partner out on Saturdays and Sundays, and dates raise hearts even faster than loved gifts. Date types are unlocked from inspiration items you find while digging, fishing, or shopping, and the first date of each type earns a commemorative photo for your wall.

Step 2: Craft the Engagement Ring and Propose

Once you hit 10 hearts and finish the day, sleep. The next morning Elsie visits your farmhouse and gives you the Engagement Ring recipe. Note that she hands over a recipe, not a ring — you still have to craft it yourself at the Forge, and several ingredients require you to have reached at least level 90 of the Mines.

Using the ring on your partner starts a private cutscene about your future together. Before you commit, the character gives you a unique handmade proposal gift, and the scene offers several chances to back out — so you can collect every candidate's gift before deciding. Once you confirm the proposal, you pick a wedding date on the calendar, at least 5 days out, and any other characters you were dating will switch to Best Friends and send you a letter.

Each proposal gift is personal and most offer a real gameplay perk. Adeline's Lifetime Planner and several others renew your energy to full, Juniper's Protection Scroll teleports you back to bed with full health if you fall in the Mines, March's Mistrian Shield is a cosmetic piece or wall hanging, and Caldarus' Dragonsworn Statue gives the player Essence. The gifts tie back to each character's heart events, which makes collecting them a quiet completionist goal of its own.

Step 3: The Wedding Day

In the days between the proposal and the ceremony, talk to your engaged partner every day — the flower, cake, and reception meal choices are delivered through separate conversations that are easy to miss. On the wedding morning itself, Elsie and Josephine escort you to the Sleeping Dragon Inn to get ready while the town handles your chores: animals are fed and petted and crops are watered automatically.

You choose your outfit at the Inn, either from the Wedding Attire Elsie provides or from anything already in your inventory, and your spouse waits at the altar in a unique outfit of their own. After vows, candles, and a reception meal back at the Inn, the day ends with your spouse moving into your farm immediately and waking up alongside you from then on. The next day Elsie mails you three pieces of furniture from your spouse's old room, which they will interact with once placed, and completing the ceremony awards the "I do!" achievement.

Step 4: The Mystical Feather

Two weeks after the wedding, a bed-time cutscene plays in which you are given a Mystical Feather by the Great Bird. Present the feather to your spouse to open the conversation about having children — this is the item the entire child system hangs on, and it cannot be rushed.

You then choose how the baby arrives: delivered by the Great Bird that gifted you the feather, carried by one of you (for female characters), or carried by the player character if your spouse is male, regardless of your own gender. The due date is marked on the calendar two weeks after this discussion.

Life with Your Baby

Babies appear as a small bundle that either you or your spouse can carry, and carrying one does not slow your movement in any way. You can also leave the baby in a crib at home unattended while you work the farm or dive into the Mines.

Each baby has a unique appearance based on you and your spouse, and neither the appearance nor the gender can be customized. As of the 1.0 release you can only have one baby, and it does not grow any older (to be confirmed for future updates — the developers may expand the system later).

Marriage itself also changes daily life in small ways: your spouse's schedule shifts so they wake up with you and prompt a morning kiss, and they settle into the farm as their home. The child route is entirely optional, though — completing the wedding alone is enough for the marriage achievement, so you can take the Mystical Feather step whenever you feel ready.
