The fields of mistria caldarus romance route is unlike any other candidate's: you cannot meet him by walking around town, and he joins your relationship list already close to max hearts. To romance the dragon guardian you must break the Fire Seal on floor 60 of the Mines, watch him take human form, and then visit his temple in the Deep Woods. Unlocking Caldarus: Breaking the Fire Seal

Caldarus' romance is tied to the "Breaking the Fire Seal" quest. The tablet that starts it and the Fire Seal itself are both buried at floor 60 of the Mines, so you will spend a lot of time spelunking before anything romantic happens. Once you acquire the tablet, speak to Juniper at the bathhouse to kick the quest off.

The seal on floor 60 requires an offering of four items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. You will also need several emeralds, sapphires, and rubies during the quest chain, so stash gems instead of selling them as you descend.

Completing the offering triggers a dramatic cutscene: the Mines Priestess warns you away, your health is drained, and Caldarus arrives to save you — revealing his human form for the first time. Exhausted, he hands you the Dragon's Breath spell and retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover.

Reaching His Temple in the Deep Woods

Dragon's Breath is the key that opens the Deep Woods: use it to burn away the vines that blocked the path. Before heading in, bring at least a copper axe for the stumps in the woods, and make sure the giant rock near the carpenter's shop is cleared, which needs at least a copper pickaxe.

Caldarus' temple sits in the upper right corner of the Deep Woods. Chat with him there to add him to your journal as a romance interest, after which you can talk to him and give him gifts daily, just like any other candidate.

The 6-Heart Head Start

Right after the update that unlocked him, players found Caldarus started at the maximum of six hearts. NPC Studio then pushed an adjustment so his starting affection matches your story progress — if you are caught up on the main quests he still begins at six hearts, but players who rush the seal early will see fewer.

If you want the slow-burn experience of raising him from zero like everyone else, hold off on advancing the main story and do only what the Fire Seal quest requires. Otherwise, enjoy the shortcut: his route begins where other candidates take a season to reach.

Heart Events and the Shooting Star Festival

Early on, Caldarus' story is delivered through cutscenes rather than standard heart events: the dream sequence at the start of the game that introduces Mistria's magic, and the Fire Seal rescue itself. Additional heart events for him were slated for later updates (to be confirmed which events are live in your version). In the 1.0 release his route runs to marriage like the other candidates — his proposal gift is the Dragonsworn Statue, which gives the player Essence.

You can also take him on a proper date at the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28. The festival lets you invite any romanceable NPC of four hearts or higher to watch the stars at the Summit — and since Caldarus starts at six hearts, he always qualifies. Gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM, meet up after that time, and the date cutscene plays.

The date itself is unusually philosophical. Caldarus explains that the festival was once known as Starbinding, and the conversation turns to what binds souls, how connections form, and his observation that not all connections are joyful and every story needs a villain. After wondering aloud whether you attended the event together in a past life, he tires, and invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.

Best Gifts for Caldarus

Caldarus leans hard toward cooked food, and his single most thematic loved gift is the Statuette of Caldarus — a statue of himself. The farm statue keeps working as normal even after his human form sets up house. Beyond the table below, his full loved list runs to ten dishes including Fried Rice, Mont Blanc, Seafood Boil, Seafood Snow Pea Noodles, and Harvest Plate, so a well-stocked kitchen is the fastest way into a dragon's heart.

The dragon-part gifts make sense if you think about it: handing your dragon boyfriend a severed claw or scale is roughly as romantic as it sounds. Stick to seafood dishes and baked goods and his affection climbs quickly.
