Fields of Mistria Legendary Fish: Locations and How to Catch

There are four Fields of Mistria legendary fish — the Cherry Fish (Spring), Lightning Fish (Summer), Leaf Fish (Fall), and Snow Fish (Winter) — and each sells for 500t. Before any of them can spawn you must unlock the Legendary skill in the Fishing skill tree, then watch for the "A legendary fish is nearby" notification at the start of the day, which tells you one is available to catch right now.

New players are unlikely to catch all four within the first year, so make sure the skill is unlocked before your second year begins.

How Legendary Fish Spawn

Legendary Fish do not appear at all until you have the Legendary skill. According to The Escapist's guide, it sits in Tier 3 of the Fishing skill tree and costs 80 Essence to unlock; another guide describes it as the level 30 Fishing perk (to be confirmed — check the skill tree in your own save).

Once the skill is active, the game rolls for a legendary spawn each day and tells you at the start of the day with the "A legendary fish is nearby" message. Each fish is tied to one season and specific weather, so the notification is your cue to check the right water in the right conditions rather than a guarantee one is waiting at your favorite spot.

Season, weather, location, and size above follow the official wiki's fish data. The Escapist's guide lists slightly broader weather windows for the Lightning Fish (rainy, rain, and storm) and Snow Fish (snow and blizzard), so if the strict conditions are not producing a bite on a notified day, it may be worth trying the wider window (to be confirmed).

Where to Fish for Each One

Cherry Fish (Spring)

The Cherry Fish swims in ponds on Windy days. The recommended spot is the large pond on the eastern side of the city; if it is not showing there, try the smaller pond near the Manor House in Mistria Town. It is a small fish, so ignore the large shadows in the water.

Lightning Fish (Summer)

Look for the Lightning Fish in rivers during stormy Summer weather. The go-to location is the rivers at the Narrows on the west side of the city, where there are two stretches of river to check — but rivers in the city or on your farm may also work. It is medium-sized and relatively large for a river catch, so target the medium shadows.

Leaf Fish (Fall)

The Leaf Fish appears in rivers on Windy Fall days, much like the Cherry Fish appears in windy Spring ponds. The rivers along the Eastern Road are the recommended hunting ground. It is small, so scan for the smaller shadows.

Snow Fish (Winter)

The Snow Fish is the only legendary found in the ocean, appearing on snowy Winter days at the beach. Besides fishing from the shore, you can swim through the ocean to reach the small island to the west. Be careful around other fish, since they may swim away if you get too close. Its medium shadow makes it easier to spot than the two small legendaries.

Catching Tips

Shadow size does half the work for you. The Cherry Fish and Leaf Fish are small, so cast only at small shadows and let the big ones pass; the Lightning Fish and Snow Fish are medium, which narrows the field just as effectively. Matching the shadow before you cast saves a lot of wasted attempts on common fish.

Weather is the other hard gate. Wind, storm, and snow days are not guaranteed every week, so check the forecast and treat qualifying days as fishing days — especially on mornings when the legendary notification appears. Because each fish is locked to one season, a missed window means waiting a full in-game year for that fish to come around again.

Finally, do not get discouraged by the pacing. Legendary fish are designed as a long-term goal, and even the guides agree that catching all four in year one is unlikely. Unlocking the skill in year one and collecting one fish per season in year two is a perfectly normal timeline.

What to Do With Legendary Fish

Do not sell them. Each Legendary Fish belongs to the Museum's Legendary Fish Set, so donate all four at the museum desk. Completing the set earns a reward — a set of Fish Wings — and the items you receive scale with your overall Museum collection progress: expect furniture, a recipe, and possibly a treasure chest containing additional rewards.

Since the Legendary Fish Set needs one fish per season under specific conditions, the realistic plan is one fish per season across a single in-game year once the skill is unlocked. Keep an eye on the weather forecast, and treat any "legendary fish is nearby" morning as a fishing day.
