Juniper's favorite gifts are magical artifacts, dark flowers, and rich comfort food like Pizza and Moon Fruit Cake, and her birthday is Fall 26. She likes frogs, newts, wine, and spooky mushrooms, dislikes most bugs and critters, and hates — of all things — Sod. To win over Mistria's bathhouse sorceress, bring her anything mysterious, magical, or edible.

Who Is Juniper?

Juniper is a mysterious sorceress and one of the game's marriage candidates. She was drawn to Mistria when she learned that magical mists and monsters of legend had begun appearing after the recent earthquake, and she set up the town's bathhouse alongside her familiar, Dozy.

The bathhouse is largely a cover for her real work: testing her newly empowered potions and spells on you and other unsuspecting townsfolk, usually resulting in helpful buffs — and occasionally funny accidents. She carries herself with theatrical confidence, calling gifts "tribute," but official wiki trivia notes she is secretly afraid of ghosts.

Her birthday falls on Fall 26. Birthday gifts grant extra friendship, and Juniper's own birthday dialogue makes her expectations clear: "There's nothing quite like receiving tribute on your birthday. Ohohoho!"

Anything not listed here counts as neutral and gives only a small friendship gain. Most villagers have ten loved gifts, but Juniper has eleven on the official wiki — the quest-exclusive Void Newt is missing from some older guides — alongside the usual twenty liked ones.

Best Gifts for Juniper

The cheapest daily option is a drink. Red Wine and White Wine are sold at the Sleeping Dragon Inn for 100t each and are both liked, while Mushroom Brew — a loved gift — costs 80t at Darcy's stall or from Balor's Wagon. "I love an earthy Mushroom Brew. The taste isn't for everyone, but that means more for yours truly." A Latte from Darcy's stall (175t) is another easy liked pickup: "A girl like me can never say no to a Latte. And it's even got the foam!"

Foraging pays off if you know where to look. Shadow Flowers grow only in darkness in the Upper Mines, Morel Mushrooms and Nettles appear in spring, and Fog Orchids bloom in fall. The Crystal Rose, a loved gift, is foraged in the Deep Earth — "What dark depths did you bring this out of? No, don't tell me. I like the mystery." — while Essence Blossom and Spell Fruit wait in the Ancient Ruins. She approves of the aesthetic: "A flower, imbued with a sense of darkness. I like it." Even a spring Middlemist has history for her: "The Witch Queens used to dry and crush Middlemist's petals to paint their lips vivid crimson."

Cooks have several routes to her heart. Fish Tacos (a personal favorite since her school days) are made from Corn, Cod, Mayonnaise, Chili Pepper, and Tide Lettuce, while Moon Fruit Cake needs Moon Fruit, Honey, a Chicken Egg, and Flour. "That burst of flavor when you bite into a piece of moon fruit, it's like magic." Pizza — "Good hot, better cold, truly the perfect food" — and Spell Fruit Parfait can be cooked or found in the Ancient Ruins, and Golden Cookies call for golden eggs, milk, and butter. Her archaeology-flavored loves — the Ancient Royal Scepter, Black Tablet, and Hardened Essence — all come from the Ruins as well, and she greets the scepter with "What a perfectly appropriate gift."

Her most unusual taste is amphibians. A common Frog (fishing or diving in spring and fall) or a Newt (diving) is a liked gift, and the Void Newt — an otherworldly newt obtained during "The Dragonsworn Tablet" quest — is a loved gift adored exclusively by her. "Oh, you shouldn't have! I can always use a nice fresh Newt." Save the void variant for Fall 26 if you can.

How Gifting Works in Fields of Mistria

You can give one gift per character per day, and that limit applies on birthdays too. Liked and loved gifts you hand over are recorded on each character's page in the Villagers list in the pause menu, so you never have to memorize your own experiments.

Gifts given on a character's birthday grant even more friendship than usual. Loved gifts raise heart levels the fastest, while hated gifts can damage your progress — relevant when a single lump of Sod can undo a week of lattes. Placing in the top three at the Spring Festival also gives a friendship boost.

Romance candidates unlock heart events at 2, 4, 6, and 8 hearts, and you receive mail when an event is ready. With two wines on tap at the Inn every day, Juniper is one of the easiest candidates in Mistria to raise steadily.

Gifts to Avoid Giving Juniper

Juniper's disliked list is essentially the bug encyclopedia. Nearly every insect, worm, and critter you catch — from the common Ant and Bumblebee to rarities like the Rhinoceros Beetle, Luna Moth, and every kind of snail — lands on her disliked list, along with clutter like Sap, Hay, Pinecones, and animal treats. Her reaction is withering: "Did you think this was a good gift? Oh dear."

Her two exceptions matter. The Newt is liked rather than disliked, and Sod is not merely disliked — it is her one and only hated gift. "You're giving dirt to the owner of the bathhouse?" she scoffs. "Smooth." Handing her a clod of earth will cost you friendship, so leave the dirt where you found it.

Also note that her fondness for the strange is specific, not universal. She enjoys unsettling finds like the Red Toadstool ("I hope you handled it carefully, they're quite poisonous") and Monster Powder ("Oh, I've got plans for this. Oh ho ho ho!"), but only the dark-tinged flowers — Fog Orchid, Night Queen, Poinsettia, and Shadow Flower — make her liked list. Even the Poinsettia earns a backhanded compliment: "They're not as poisonous as one might hope. Ah well." Ordinary blooms will not impress her, so stick to the list above rather than guessing.
